Javascript is getting better (than Flash..?)

Well, ok. So I really exaggerated to grab you attention. But codes like Scrollable
really does stuff that Flash did back in the days. (that would be 2001 or so for my part). Time flies. Check it out.

Want your photos to look like Polaroids?

Quite funny, I downloaded loads of Polaroid images some time back, so that in case I wanted to create Polaroidstyle photos with Photoshop I could. Then suddenly get an email from the lead developer at Rollip.com telling me about their website and web-application.

Its an easy 3 click manner to create images like the one you see on the left. Its free too!

One thing Im missing though, is the ability to choose the position and cropping of the photo I'm uploading to the Polaroid template. Hope to see that in their next release.

Most common web-banner formats in Norway (mest vanlig banner formater i Norge)

After some research, I (believe) I have found the most common webbanner formats in Norway.

Both the ad agency McCann Norge and webproduction company Jucicy agree that these are the 3 most common sizes: - Board: 468x400
- Topbanner: 768x150
- Skyscraper: 180x500 (can have different heights)

Microsoft Advertising Norge say they use mainly

- 300x250

- 234x60

But, they also have: 728x90, 160x600 and 180x150

This is the overview from VG banner formater
Format Pixler (bredde x høyde) Maks kB
Toppboard 768 piksler 150 piksler 50 kB
Nettboard 468 piksler 400 piksler 60 kB
Nettboard3 468 piksler 600 piksler 60 kB
Sideboard 180 piksler 500 piksler 40 kB
Sideboard 180 piksler 650 piksler 45 kB
Smalmidt 468 piksler 100 piksler 30 kB
Midiboard 360 piksler 308 piksler 30 kB
Smartboard 360 piksler 100 piksler 25 kB
Knapp 180 piksler 120 piksler 20 kB
Frimerke 180 piksler 150 piksler 25 kB

Any thougths on this?

Download Youtube videos easily

Gazzump (previously known as Farkie) downloads and converts Youtube videos, MySpace playlists, movies, audio, images, and much more into several different formats such as mp3, avi, mov, etc. Its kind of slow at times, but still usefull if you want to for example check out a video offline or listen to a song as a mp3 that you cant find anywhere. (Example: The fantastic song "Bonkers" by Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden is not available on iTunes, nor have I found it in any shop, but its on Youtube...)

Only bad part about Gazzump is that you have to register.

YouTube is getting stricter with copyright: Sounds off

Wanted to listen to The Bucketheads "The Bomb" on Youtube, found a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2THjmRLyp8

BUT, heres a new one: the sound is disabled! Under the video it says:

NOTICE
This video contains an audio track that has not been authorized by WMG. The audio has been disabled. More about copyright..

I understand that Google needs to earn money and copyright is important, and am not sure how they can do this with so much usergenerated content (and seems as they dont really know either..) But if they continue like this people will just go to other sites like Vimeo ..

Paul Chaffey: 5 laws for social media

Paul Chaffey comments on Paul Gillin's book "The New Influencers". Shortly summed up these are the 5 laws:
1. Thou shalt link.
2. Thou shalt not diss.
3. Thou shalt be transparent.
4. Thou shalt comment.
5. Thou shalt not blather.

(Chaffey's article is worth the read, but it's in Norwegian)

SkypeIn and SkypeOut on my w810i using Midp/Java

As I still live in the darkages of mobiles with my w810i, I envy all iPhone users with their great selection of apps from Apples AppStore. For example having Skype (except for T-mobile users who are banned from using it...) and Windows Live Messenger on your phone. So when I found Skype having a Java programme, I was well happy! It looks great (as opposed to most Java/Midp apps...), but happiness was short lived! I figured out I can ONLY chat to other Skype users with it from my mobile (or cell phone if you like). Pretty much useless then.

Previously I have mentioned EQO mobile, which works quite well for IP ringing. But IM+ for Skype seems much better! Not only can I phone Skype users and use SkypeOut, but I can also receice Skype calls. Fantastic! Would just love if they could upgrade the Java (Midp 2.0) layout, cause thats not really fancy...

7 days trial, or get the whole for 10 US bucks. Its a deal!

Create your own RSS feed readers easy

Like many other I wanted to have RSS feeds on my website, in this case my Twitter feed on my blog. Not having the normal Blogger template, I wasnt able to use the Blogger feed widget. So I had to look elsewhere. Finally I found an article listing up a bunch of different, easy to use RSS feedcreators that dont need programming skills. Robin Good wrote them. After reviewing most of them I concluded that FeedSweep and SpringWidgets where the easiest to use. Both are free btw. Though the SpringWidget has nice scrolling, it doesnt really integrate well visually (I find) with the rest of my site, so I ended up with FeedSweep. It has a great easy to use editor, with loads of options, such as border colors, font size, etc.

I only have sometimes some trouble saving the feedreaders. I guess you cant get it all..

Anyways, good luck!

Spam is fun! (sometimes

Sometimes spam is fun, as the one I got today proves:

IT IS NOT A SPAM, but if you received that message second and plus time JUST CLICK DELETE button and have a nice day. Don't feel bad, please understand original Scarlett's family very desperate to shut down that humiliating antichristian "actress" clones line career development. Hello dear Ladies and Gentlemen! I would like inform you that Scarlett Johansson ?actress? actually is a clone from original person Scarlett Galabekian last name, who has nothing with acting career, surname Galabekian, because of adoption happened in 1992. Clones was created illegally by using stolen biological material. Original person is very nice (not d**n sexy),most important - CHRISTIAN young lady! I'll tell you more, those clones (it's not only one) made in GERMANY - world leader manufacturer of humans clones, it is in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Rhineland-Palatinate, Mr. Helmut Kohl home town. You can not even imaging the scale of the cloning activity. But warning! Helmut Kohl clone staff strictly controlling all their clones (at least they trying) spreading around the world, they are very accurate with that, some of them are still NAZI type disciplined and mind controlled clones, so be careful get close with clones you will be controlled as well. Original person is not happy with those movies, images, video, rumors and etc. spreading on media in that way it would be really nice if we all will try slow down that ''actress'' career development, original Scarlett will really appreciated that. Please remember that original Scarlett's family did not authorize any activity with stolen biological materials, no matter what form it was created in it was stolen and it is stolen. It all need to be delivered to authorize personals control in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Original Scarlett never was engaged, by the way! Her close friend Serge G. P.S. CONTROLLING ACTIVITY OF ANY CLONES IS US MILITARY OPERATION. Check also here: / have deleted the url/ H.R. 534, the Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2003, was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives on February 5, 2003. After discussion, it was passed on February 27 by a vote of 241-155. It now moves on to the Senate for consideration. This bill makes it unlawful for any person or entity to perform or participate in human cloning, or to ship or receive embryos produced by human cloning. The penalties are imprisonment of up to 10 years and fines of $1 million or more. These now join other nations as diverse as Norway, Australia, and many other countries, which had already added cloning for any purpose to their criminal code. And in Germany where it carries a penalty of five years imprisonment they know a thing or two about unethical science.

Uff. Last.fm wants my money

I guess it was almost just a matter of time, now Last.fm wants my money. Only $3 a month, but still. A shame. Loads say that Spotify will win this battle, but I use these sites differently, so I believe both can live side by side. Seems like all sites start like this, free at start, get loads of users, then trying to figure out how to get money, then subscription charges pop-up. Reality bites.

Twitter usage increases in Norway and how to get old mobile phones (ie. w810i) on Twitter

I have been on Twitter for a couple of months, but never really got the point. Probably also cause no one else in Norway got it either. I only had ONE friend/follower on Twitter. That was Tim. But over the last months, suddenly everyone seems to be on Twitter. And when the biggest Norwegian newspapers like VG and Dagbladet have journalist like my friend Snorre Bryne (Dagbladet) using it actively communicating with his readers and having Twitter streams in their articles AND Twingly, then you know its become mainstream in Norway too. The widespread popularity of the iPhone has increased the usage too.

Any-ways, having a blog I mixed that up with Twitter with TwitterFeed (its just really a feed from my blog to my twitter account) and then having the Twitter application in Facebook feeding from Twitter to my Facebook status field, suddenly I have created a little mashup and am so proud!

BUT, I dont own an iPhone, but obviously want to spam everyone with meaningless trivia from my daily life. So what to do? Tata!! I found the solution: Jitter. A tiny free Java application created by Abiro. It works on pretty much any phone supporting MIDlets. Such as my old w810i. Technology is wonderful! Hurrah!

Skype is great for calling, but also has a good video call function. However sometimes it doesnt work. Especially between a PC and Mac. So one needs alternatives. Heres an overview over 10 different video conference applications: 10 Skype alternatives I tried SightSpeed, but never got it to work apart from the chat function which was like a poor Messenger.

Apparently in January Microsoft will release a Beta of Windows Live Messenger for Mac that finally supports video too. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope it works well.

Save files online (and syncing) them too

There are many ways of saving files online and possibly syncing them thereby. Here are some alternatives I have found:

- Skydrive (5gb free),

- MSN shared folder,

- Office Live (integrated with the MS Office suite)

- Gdisk (a software that turns your GMail account into a portable hard drive)

-mailbigfiles.com (not really storage as such, only another way of distributing large files rather than sending via email, but I find their free service better than YouSendits)

-YouSendit(not really storage as such, only another way of distributing large files rather than sending via email)

- Amazon S3 ($0.15 per GB-Month of storage used AND monthly trafic cost)

- Apples mobile.me (Individual One-year subscription $99)

And finally my favourite: Dropbox (invitation only, but giving you 2gb free, with cross-platform functionality and web interface too. And its just drag and drop!)

The rapping 3 kings

The Spanish ad agency, La Despensa have made a really cool website:
Its the 3 rapping kings battling out Papa Noel, or Santa Claus if you like.

And the coolest feature is being able to choose a king, upload your face photo, spray a msg on the wall, choose who this rap is dedicated to and get the king to rap to your friend, lover, or whoever needs a rap the holiday season!
Hoho.

Mail big files for free

Got big files you say? Outlook or Thundbird inbox gets filled up too fast? Well, sending files via websites are a good solution. I usually use mailbigfiles.com for sending big files. However that site has a restriction of 100mb (the free version of the site, that is)

This site is free too, but has a 2gb (!) limit. Though you have to register and tried it once and it just stopped. So I guess its not that good after all...?

Free too, 2gb limit. Havent tried it yet. But both are worth a shot.

Easily download YouTube movies via Safari (osx)

YouTube is great for finding all sorts of video clips, but wouldnt it be nice having them on your computer? And when I say computer, I mean Mac (it might even work on PCs, now that Safari is available on Windows too). So after some googling, I found the following tip at MacOSXhints.com:

If you're using Safari, there's an easy way to download YouTube videos. Open the page with the movie and press Command-Option-A (or Window - Activity), which shows the Activity window. If you're also loading other sites, you'll see a list of them: scroll until you find the YouTube page and click on the arrow to show details about what is being loaded.

You will certainly notice an element whose size is over 0.5MB (most of the time, over 5MB). Double-click on it (even if it is still loading), and Safari will download it. When the download is over, navigate to the file in the Finder (which will probably be called get_video) and add the extension .flv to its name. Now you can play it with VLC or with QuickTime (only if you have Perian installed).

Fantastic!

902 days later and finally a new a.beining.com website

This is a screenshot of a.beining.com version 2. It lasted me 902 days. And around 2000 visits, of which 50% came from Norway, 13% Spain, 7% China (Beining is a city in China apparently), USA, UK ++

Most use XP (53%) and IE 6 (34%). BUT being a portfolio site, loads of Macers have come around too! 37% use osX and 34% Safari. Not bad.. :)

Well, after so long time without any updates (last one was the 1. of June 2006..), I was getting embaressed, SO without any further ado: TATAA! http://a.beining.com all new!

Steve and Bill meet again

The biggest guys in the data age met again. Thats Steve Jobs and Bill Gates for the novices.

Quite interesting how those guys are really similar (appearance, computer knowledge, voice etc), yet Steve always is a bit cooler. Just like Macs.. :P

DnB Nor reklamefilm: Vi vet ikke hva som skjer

Flott reklamefilm fra Republica. Stilig produksjon, men skjønner liksom ikke helt poenget her. Slagordet er "Vi vet ikke hva som skjer." (se bildet for hele teksten)

HALLO!?

Anyhow, kikk på http://www.firetretoen.no/ og bedøm selv. Forøvrig kunne jeg nok tenkt meg å se den filmen.. (Strengt tatt burde den vel hete "Dos", som oppfølger til "Uno")

Handy startpage: Netvibes

Have just discovered http://www.netvibes.com/ It's a site similar to Google's "Home" site, however being a Mac addicct, I prefer Netvibes layout and easy userinterface. Also I love the idea that one acctually doesn't have to log on to be able to use it. Registering is however useful, as Netvibes saves the settings and they won't get lost in case you delete your cookies. Also if you use multiple computers like me, you can easily get your personlised page on the other computer by logging in.

The RSS feeds are quite good too, being able to see Aftenposten, NYT, Spiegel and El Pais at the same time.

Only, I think they should get a smaller clock. The so called "mini-clock" is really not "mini". More like "major". Oh, well. Can't get'em all at once I suppose.. :)

Happy easter! (and if you happen to see Valentin today: congratulate him from me. It's his birthday! Hurra!)
