Most common web-banner formats in Norway (mest vanlig banner formater i Norge)

After some research, I (believe) I have found the most common webbanner formats in Norway.

Both the ad agency McCann Norge and webproduction company Jucicy agree that these are the 3 most common sizes: - Board: 468x400
- Topbanner: 768x150
- Skyscraper: 180x500 (can have different heights)

Microsoft Advertising Norge say they use mainly

- 300x250

- 234x60

But, they also have: 728x90, 160x600 and 180x150

This is the overview from VG banner formater
Format Pixler (bredde x høyde) Maks kB
Toppboard 768 piksler 150 piksler 50 kB
Nettboard 468 piksler 400 piksler 60 kB
Nettboard3 468 piksler 600 piksler 60 kB
Sideboard 180 piksler 500 piksler 40 kB
Sideboard 180 piksler 650 piksler 45 kB
Smalmidt 468 piksler 100 piksler 30 kB

Logo trends 2009

Creative Review has yet again analyzed logos for 2009 and these are the logo trends for 2009. To be honest, I find that they have so many "trends", 13 in total, that it hardly can be seen as a "trend". Also, some look very similar to last years trends, such as VariDot:

But its still an interresting read.

Paul Chaffey: 5 laws for social media

Paul Chaffey comments on Paul Gillin's book "The New Influencers". Shortly summed up these are the 5 laws:
1. Thou shalt link.
2. Thou shalt not diss.
3. Thou shalt be transparent.
4. Thou shalt comment.
5. Thou shalt not blather.

(Chaffey's article is worth the read, but it's in Norwegian)

Best and worst of Olympic design

Swedish mag Cap&Design had an article about the different designs of the Olympics:

Personally I prefer the Mexico from 1988. Pretty funky

And when it comes to the logo for London 2012, I find it looks like the Jewish museum Berlin which was designed by Liebeskind. Great museum and building. But as a logo...!?

Pessimistic youth (MTV wellbeing study 2007)

Rather depressing reading about the "well-being" of today's youth from MTV research amongst 6000 youths. In Norway one third is not happy about their life's.. Their lonely and pessimistic the study says.

According to Madeleine Thor from MTV Networks, comments that the youth feel a pressure to get a job that can give "self-realisation". "A work that doenst give self-realisation is not interresting for the youth. It might seem that adults say that todays youth are lazy, but in fact it is because they arent interested in jobs that give self-realisation."

Ah, and the most "happy and optimistic" youths are found in Argentine. Norway is at the 11. place. Japan is rock-bottom.

Steve and Bill meet again

The biggest guys in the data age met again. Thats Steve Jobs and Bill Gates for the novices.

Quite interesting how those guys are really similar (appearance, computer knowledge, voice etc), yet Steve always is a bit cooler. Just like Macs.. :P

A short summary of the meeting can be read: http://www.nytimes.com/technology/

Change default font in InDesign

Like me, I suppose there are may out there that mainly work on one specific project at the time. And usually that means one default font too. Though Adobe, like Microsoft, love Times New Roman. So here's how to change the default font in InDesign:

You can make any active font the default font in the document by first making sure that's nothing's selected in your document (Command-Shift-A/Ctrl-Shift-A), then choosing the font you want from the Type > Font submenu or in the Character palette. All new text frames you create from then on in the document will use your new default font. If you change the default font without any documents open, that will be your new default font for all new InDesign documents you create.

This works for all other formatting defaults too!

The art of conversation

Found a great article in the Economist about conversation. Here are the main rules:

"The rules we learn from Cicero are these: speak clearly; speak easily but not too much, especially when others want their turn; do not interrupt; be courteous; deal seriously with serious matters and gracefully with lighter ones; never criticise people behind their backs; stick to subjects of general interest; do not talk about yourself; and, above all, never lose your temper. Probably only two cardinal rules were lacking from Cicero's list: remember people's names, and be a good listener."
